Some Running Around
I’m gradually picking up my share of the “soccer mom” part of our lives again. This morning we’d barely gotten everyone awake and fed when it was time to load Thomas and Lindsey into the truck and head out for a few errands.
The first stop was Thomas’s “All Stars” class at the Y – indoor sports for young kids. Today they played soccer (well, sort of; the activity more closely resembled Brownian motion than soccer for the most part). Lindsey happily played with another little girl in the audience, and I sat and watched. Some of the kids are very poor at listening to instructions, and today there were consequences to that; one of the older kids ventured over to the far side of the gym where the adults were training at just the wrong moment, and took a basketball full in the face.
After the class, the three of us went out to do the grocery shopping. Thomas proved how observant he is by recognizing the name of the brand of beer I usually buy even though it’s packaging had changed. We got home in time for lunch, and I sat for a bit.
Post-lunch, I tried to get a bit of coding work done, but there were too much catchup and too many interruptions for me to be really effective. Kids got an early dinner of beef tips and rice so that Dana could take Adam with her and drop him off at Cub Scouts on her way to karate. I piled the other kids into the truck 90 minutes later and we all went to pick him up.
Back home, I came to the conclusion that I was just too unfocused to get anything done, so declared it a midweekend and read for the rest of the evening. At bedtime, we did our first chapter of “The Lost Princess of Oz,” our new book for the next few weeks.
