Longer Day

Today was entirely too long. It started around 5AM when I got up and dealt with email and overnight issues, and quickly enough moved into feeding kids. We cancelled school today because the schedule was just impossible, and besides, we were celebrating Lindsey’s birthday.

I managed to get in about two hours of billable work (along with some paperwork and email and such) before things got really busy in the late morning. Dana took Lindsey to her tumbling class, and when she got back we drove the whole crew over to Chuck E. Cheese for lunch and party along with half a dozen other kids. That was the usual round of too much noise and bad food (I took the precaution of having my own early lunch at home before we left) but of course the kids enjoyed it. The local Chuck E. Cheese has expanded since the last time we were there; clearly the recession hasn’t hurt them too much.

Back home, we had about an hour of time (most of which was filled with Lindsey opening presents from the family) before it was time to head out the door again. Dana and Kayla were off to a Girl Scout event, and Adam and I headed to the annual Blue and Gold Banquet – graduation ceremony for Cub Scouts heading to Boy Scouts, essentially. The younger kids got to tag along with me (and they did great despite far too much time sitting and waiting for things to happen). We had barbecue dinner and saw skits from all the dens and otherwise saw the pack and parents celebrate.

We got back home again with a scant 15 minutes or so till bedtime. Kids went to bed (though Lindsey wanted to stay up and play with new toys, which was perfectly understandable) and Dana and I pretty much collapsed.
