Too Much Driving

Things were way busy yesterday and today. We had our usual plan of which parent was going to do what, and unfortunately that went out the window after lunch on Sunday, when Dana was on her way to pick up Kayla from overnight Girl Scout camp. Unfortunately just as she was getting ready to leave, she stuck something in her eye and scratched her cornea.

After a bit of chaos, we loaded everyone into the van and then dropped her at the ER to have the eye looked at. Then I turned around with the rest of the kids and drove out to pick up Kayla (about a 90-minute drive). Got the girl, turned around, and picked up Dana, who by this time had an eye patch and some eye drops. Then I drove everyone home and we had dinner.

Later that evening I discovered that the pharmacist at Deaconness had managed to fill an eye drop prescription with the equivalent ear drops. That resulted in another trip to the ER to get the correct medication, getting home just in time for bed. Dana had a rough night with lots of pain.

This morning, I got up and answered essential email, then made lunches for the three kids we have in camp this week (everyone but Lindsey). Then it was off with all four kids in tow: Adam and Thomas to zoo camp, then Kayla to CMoE camp. After that Lindsey and I went to our regular pharmacist and then to a meeting with our insurance agent (where I learned that Obamacare is once again going to screw me financially).

Back home, we bounced long enough for lunch, and then took Dana out to the opthalmologist. There she got a protective contact lens and some more eye drops. The pain is receding, at least, but it’s going to be a bit longer before she can see well. Audio books are our friends.

Bounced at home to drop Dana and Lindsey off, and then headed back out again to pick up our campers (who all had a fine time). Then I had half and hour to deal with some coding crises on the biggest project before taking Thomas to tumbling. He did well, then he and I did a quick grocery run and took home dinner (roast chicken and mashed potatoes) for everyone.

By this time I was pretty knackered, but I managed to get in a couple hours of work before putting kids to bed, doing the dishes, and crashing myself.
