A Birthday Day

Things got rolling around 7AM when Kayla got up and turned 5 years old. We started the day with a pile of presents. All the kids were very excited about this, and fortunately Kayla was not too fussy about the amount of help she got opening things.

After presents we had a bit of lull for playing with things and for the adults to try to get their day in order, but soon enough it was time to pack the kids in the car and head for Spokane. That was because Kayla wanted her birthday meal at Chuck E. Cheese, and the closest one to us is nearly two hours away. So we drove up there, had pizza and running around, and drove back. The kids all enjoyed that part of the day too – well, maybe not the four hours driving, but the running around and the food and ice cream.

Back home, we arrived just as some folks who’d looked at the house in our absence were leaving. There was another brief break while the kids played in the yard, and then Kayla decided it was time for birthday cake, so we added even more cake and ice cream to the sugar overload. That ended the birthday festivities, and adults tried to do a bit of work for a few hours.

Eventually kids got hungry and I popped chicken nuggets into them; adults scrounged for food as the mood struck us. Bedtimes rolled around and though they were still wound up they all went down with relatively little effort.
