Shopping with Kids
I got up with Lindsey 6:30ish and got through the usual morning routine reasonably quickly. After a bit of skull sweat coming up with a Web Worker Daily piece (the “daily” part of the schedule continues to be an occasional challenge), I got the older three kids dressed and herded them out to the minivan.
We headed over to Moscow, which proved to mean navigating a batch of road construction, and did some shopping for mom’s birthday. While we were there, an older lady came up to compliment me on having well-behaved kids. It’s always older ladies who do this; there must be a corps of them who hang around in Wal-Mart specifically to observe and comment on other people’s child-rearing skills.
From there, we made our way back to the grocery store, where we discovered that the main parking lot was all torn up for repaving. We did our weekly shopping anyhow, despite having to park in the south forty and put up with loud (but fascinating) machinery. After shopping and treats, it was back home for the lot of us.
The afternoon, of course, was spent mainly on catchup. Eventually I wrote some paying code and then kicked off a big database import, which afforded me some play time in Second Life while I waited for it to complete.
Dinner was smoked turkey, risotto, and peas. The baby at least ate heartily, though the older two kids just picked for some reason.
