Bye Bye Tooth

The first part of the morning was purely routine, featuring Web work, answering e-mail, and so on. Around 10 AM we loaded everyone into the minivan and headed out to Pullman. Thomas was happy to get his new bigger-boy car seat, complete with “cowmooflage” pattern cover.

First stop was the Department of Licensing office to inquire about the process for new license plates for the RV. That led immediately to the other DOL office in Pullman, and then to the Ford dealership to get the VIN off the dashboard and pick up the insurance cards, and then back to the DOL. $140 later, we had new plates: a fairly painless, though somewhat expensive, process. The RV itself is in rather a lot of pieces at the moment, but they’re working on it. With the engine back in running order, I’ve authorized brake and other chassis work to make sure it’s in good shape.

Then Dana dropped me at our dentist’s office and took the kids off to McDonalds. I had a nice chat and discussion of my most recent set of x-rays with my dentist, and then he proceeded to shoot me full of local anesthetic. I took a short catnap while it took effect. Then he went after the wisdom tooth that has been giving me trouble. The attempt to “elevate” it out (I surmise with some sort of lever arrangement) failed, and it took a few minutes of wrestling with old-fashioned pliers, but eventually the dentist one. A short discussion of postoperative care later I was out of there with a bit of gauze stuffed in my mouth.

We headed home, with a short stop at the pharmacy to pick up fresh prescriptions of antibiotics and painkillers. As it happens, I only needed a single hydrocodone, and I took that one purely as a precaution; the pain so far has been minimal (nothing like what I went through post-vasectomy). I bled for about six hours, but that’s normal.

Dana did more than her usual amount of kid-chasing and made their dinner (I had yogurt and mac and cheese) and I did some slower-than-usual coding work for the rest of the day. Got to bed a bit later than usual because Lindsey was insistent on staying up forever, but after a movie (she can say “Blue!” now) she finally settled down.
