Flurry of Work
Yes, I’m still alive. It’s just that my days at the moment are full of writing my regular web content, writing code, packing, and not a whole lot else.
Today was a little different, though. Yesterday morning I got a somewhat panicked IM in Second Life from one of my corporate contacts there. It seems that one of the key speakers for the Life 2.0 conference in SL – starting today – had just ended up in the hospital for an emergency appendectomy, and they needed someone to write and deliver 4 hours of training on LSL (the scripting language used to program inside of Second Life) literally overnight. Well, two hours of training on Saturday and two on Sunday. We negotiated terms for a bit, and I signed on to do it.
So, other than running out to get the pickup truck back from Ford, Friday was spent writing courseware. Then I got up this morning and made slides (which turned into a fairly complex process involving Keynote and exporting to JPG and importing to Second Life) and then delivered the two talks from 9 to 11 AM. They went well, and students seemed happy, though there was one minor incident involving a demo that went awry and took a while to cleanup, leaving a “PrimPiggy” object chattering away as I took closing questions. I’d give myself 6 ut of 10, which considering the low amount of prep time I had, is pretty darned good.
Then I spent the rest of the day writing the courseware to be delivered tomorrow. There was a break in there somewhere to make leftovers and mac and cheese for dinner, but that was about it.
