Platelet Donation
Lindsey got restless and woke me just before 6AM. I got her back to bed and got up myself, clearing my desk off to start the new day.
Bright and early this morning the installers from Dish Network showed up. They spent a couple of hours attaching a satellite dish to the side of the house up by the eaves and running cable, and now we have our satellite TV back. We also have (for the first time; we don’t tend to be early adopters in the audiovisual world) a DVR. We’ll see if we use it.
Somewhere in there we got some morning schoolwork done and I managed to answer some email and update web sites. After an early lunch, I headed out the door for a few hours. First stop was our insurance agent, where I worked out the mechanics of phone deposits to our HSA. Then I swung by Target to pick up a few odds and ends, like a new mop and a snow shovel (something I haven’t owned for years, and am not really looking forward to owning again).
The main event for my day was a visit to the local chapter of the Red Cross, where I gave another unit of platelets – that’s donation #66 for me. It was an uneventful hour or so of watching my blood get pumped around and centrifuged. As with everywhere else we’ve ever lived, the blood supply is chronically low around here, so I expect Dana and I will both become regular donors again.
After a stop at our mail drop I headed home and got a bit of work done before it was time to feed the kids sausages, baked beans, and bagels for dinner. Dana headed out while I was doing that, for her first karate class in the new dojo. (It was a great success; her new sensei is impressed and she’s starting as a green belt). I ran all the kids through the bathtub and when Dana got home she and I had a late dinner of sausages with peppers, grilled portobello mushroom sandwiches, and salad.
From there, it was just email catchup and a bit of relaxation until bedtime.
